The Odd Volume traces my memories of 70’s Vancouver alongside stories about the diasporic rupture of my immediate family. Central to the piece are questions around my immigrant experience as a first generation Chinese Filipina settler, ranging from when I was five years old in 1973 to my adult experiences five decades later. What does it mean to know that I will never arrive yet always yearn to belong? Leaning into poetic dissonance, the work unsilences the odd volume of my identity and maps a road to healing.”
