A duet for father, daughter that explores the emptiness nature of being by drawing from the Heart Sutra of the Kwan Yin, the Boddhisatva of compassion.
I created this piece to tend a deep fissure in my relationship with my father. Being present with a plethora of triggers and cultivating patience was harrowing and also amazing. I remember holding my dad’s wrists in my hands and having the profound sensation of our bodies being same. My dad was so brave. He had never before created or performed on a professional stage. He improvised, danced, sung and spoke in front of audiences for the first time, at age 77. I don’t think that we broke down any stubborn wounds, but we did create something together and that, was love."
